Day 1: Arrive Hanoi (D)
Arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, our guide will greet and accompany you to your hotel, where our guide offers advice and assistance before taking you out for a welcome dinner. If time permits we embark on a cyclo for a short excursion through the bustling old quarter streets. Stay overnight in hotel in Hanoi.
Day 2: Hanoi (B)
Today we enjoy a full day city tour starting with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation’s founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts. This complex also comprises the One Pillar Pagoda, whose origins date back to the foundation of city. We follow this with a trip to the Temple of Literature, which is well known as the first university of Vietnam and the impressive Ethnologic Museum, dedicated to Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. The beautiful West Lake and the History Museum with an excellent collection of artifacts illustrating the Vietnamese history are not to be missed. We visit these sights before continuing to the peaceful lake of Hoan Kiem. In front of this lake is the famous water puppet theatre where we will see a fantastic performance. Day 3: Mai Chau Trek (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we drive to Mai Chau. This scenic drive takes around three hours. Along the way we pass fields of tapioca and sugar cane as well as rice paddies. After lunch in a traditional stilt house of the Thai people, we drive for one hour to Sa Linh Village to begin our trekking. The verdant and rugged mountain scenery combined with the colorful local population makes this an unforgettable experience. Today we walk along gravel tracks and small paths, used by the locals. Our destination for this evening is Hang Kia village, home of the Hmong Minority people. Here we stay overnight as the guests of an H'mong family in a traditional long house, situated in a picturesque valley of peach orchards.
Day 4: Mai Chau Trek (B/L/D)
Today we get well and truly off the beaten track as we trek through tropical rain forest, using the local tracks and passing through cornfields as we descend in to Mai Chau Valley . On the way we will encounter the local villagers as they go about their daily business: whether it be tilling the fields, logging or herding buffalo. The trek will take around 7 hours and is quite steep in places. Lunch will be provided en route, and weather permitting, we will have a picnic near a babbling brook at the foot of the valley. From here we pass through several White Thai villages, and are sure to attract attention as this part of the country receives very few visitors. We will arrive at Van village by late afternoon and we will have time to walk around this charming little village, enabling us to understand a little more about how the people live. The village is home to the Thai people, and tonight we will be their guests in one of their traditional stilt houses. There, we will be toasted as honored guests and will be able to sample some of their homemade rice wine!
Day 5: Mai Chau - Hanoi (B/L)
The sound of mountain, cock and pork make us up for a new day and breakfast.. We trek for a couple of hours passing through several more Thai hamlets on the valley and encounter friendly children, villagers before we return to Hanoi. Stay overnight in hotel in Hanoi.
Day 6: Hanoi – Ha Long Bay (B/L/D)
We leave the capital for Ha Long Bay. Take a boat trip to visit Halong Bay with stops to see limestone caves. Lunch on board with fresh seafoods. Afternoon is spent for swimming and kayaking between the islands to remote and deserted beaches. Get back to the boat at 6p.m. Dinner on board. Free at leisure in the evening. Stay overnight on board.
Day 7: Ha Long Bay - Hanoi - Hue(B/L)
We spend the morning in the bay, have a few hours spare to get accustomed to our Kayaking equipment and get a sample of what to expect from this World Heritage Listed area before returning to Hanoi. In the evening we board the famous Reunification Express for our southbound train to Hue. Stay overnight on train
Day 8: Hue (B/L)
We arrive in Vietnam's former capital in the morning. Enjoy a guided tour of the Citadel, containing the Imperial City and the Forbidden Purple City as well as a dragon boat cruise down the Perfume River visiting Thien Mu Pagoda: just outside of Hue, on the bank of the Perfume River, this was a hotbed of anti-government protest during the early 1960s. Behind the main sanctuary of the pagoda is the Austin motorcar which transported the monk Thich Quang Duc to the site of his 1963 self-immolation. Tomb of King Minh Mang: a complex built in 1840 by King Minh Mang, known for its magnificent architecture, military statuaries and elaborate decorations. It is perhaps the most beautiful of Hue's pagodas and tombs.. The evening is highlighted with a Hue folk show on the Perfume RiverStay overnight in hotel in Hue
Day 9: Hue - Hoi An (B)
This morning we drive up the spectacular Hai Van Pass, the pass crosses over a spur of the Truong Son Mountain Range that juts into the South China Sea. It is an incredible mountainous stretch of highway with spectacular views. We drive along the Lang Co beach that has a pretty, island-like stretch of palm-shaded sand with a crystal-clear lagoon on one side and many km of beachfront facing the South China Sea and down to Hoi An. In Da Nang we visit the impressive Cham Museum and the Marble Mountains before arriving in Hoi An. In the afternoon we have an orientation tour of Hoi An’s historic old quarter. Day 11: Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh City (B)
We transfer to Da Nang airport for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). In the afternoon we have a tour of the city’s most famous sights: Notre Dame Catholic Church, City Hall, Reunification Palace, War Remnant Museum, Thien Hau Pagoda. Free shopping in Dong Khoi streets and short visit Ben Thanh market. Stay overnight in hotel in Ho Chi Minh city.
Day 12: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi – Tay Ninh (B/L)
In the morning we have an excursion to the famous Cu Chi where you visit the amazing tunnel system used by Communist guerrillas during the Vietnam War followed by the Cao Dai temple in Tay Ninh. Return to Ho Chi Minh for dinner. Stay overnight in hotel in Ho Chi Minh.
Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta (B/L/D)
. This morning we set off for a drive through the Mekong Delta to the town of Cai Be, well-known for it's floating market. Here we will board our private boat for a cruise along the maze of waterways and canals to Vinh Long. We will stop at the home of a Bonsai gardener for a sumptuous Delta lunch, including the popular dish of 'Elephant ear fish', before continuing our exploration of the tributaries and canals of the delta. Towards the end of the day we arrive in Cantho where we stay at lovely Victoria Catho hotel or local home stay right by the Mekong river.
Day 14: Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City (B/D)
Rising early to the sounds of the Delta coming to life for another day, we have breakfast and start our trip with a boat cruise on sparking streams along the endless waterway of Mighty Mekong River to Cairang and Phongdien floating markets. There will be hundreds of boats loaded with fruits, vegetables and fish jostling for trade. Sellers advertisers their wares by crying out across the waters. We visit the lush orchards and are treated to a delicious tropical fruits. In the afternoon, drive to Ho Chi Minh city where the remainder of the day is free. In the evening we have a farewell dinner. Stay overnight in hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 15: Depart Ho Chi Minh City (B)
The tour finishes after breakfast. There will be a transfer waiting to take you to the airport for your departure flight.
