Vietnam’s Northwest – moutainous area

Tay Bac (literally "Northwest") is one of the regions of Vietnam, located in the mountainous northwestern part of the country. It consists of four provinces: Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, and Hoa Binh. The beauty of Northwest Vietnam and its unspoiled nature could be thought of as a paradox, since its continuing existence depends on how we handle the future of tourism in this country. However, the advent of responsible tourism might go some way to ensuring respect for the people and protection of these well-established cultures.
The North West is a very remote and undevelopped region that offers the country's finest mountain scenery. It also offers the best chance to meet colorful and varied ethnic minorities (also refered to as hill tribes, or Montagnards), whose traditions have been the least affected by the modern way of life. The region can be explored by adventurous travellers in at least a week-long loop trip along Highway 6, from Mai Chau to Sapa.

Hoa Binh is a mountainous province on the Northeast gateway of Ha Noi and only 70km away from Ha Noi. Traveling by road or river are both convenient. Hoa Binh has a lot of caves and its villages of Thai and Muong minority people have become attractive tourism spots for a long time. Mai Chau valley has become a familiar address for tourists in many years.

Dien Bien Phu
It is the place where the heroic campaign Dien Bien Phu took place. The campaign opened on 15 March 1954 and ended on 7 May 1954 with the victory of Vietnam. Today the whole former battlefield has become the relics of the past where tourists come to visit and study the life of ethnic minorities.
