The Hung King's Temple is located on the Nghia Linh Mountain, Hy Lang commune, Phong Chau district, Phu Tho province, 85 kilometers northwest of Hanoi. Every year, a national festival called Hung King's Temple Festival is held to worship the Hung Kings, who were instrumental in the founding of the nation. “No matter where you go, Remember that the anniversary of the ancestors is on March 10th”
From the 1st to the 3rd day of Chet month (according to Buddhist calendar, equivalent to the 12th to 15th day of April in solar calendar). Objects of worship is welcoming the God of the New Year, Buddha and ancestors. It is the traditional Tet (New Year) of the Khmer community in the southern provinces., seeing the old year off and welcoming the New Year.
The festival is on 5th day of the fifth lunar month and celebrated in every house of the Kinh (Viet). This is the middle year festival for the prevention of disease and ward off evil spirits (the day of changing weather from spring to summer, this is the time easy to get pathogen). On the day of “killing insects”, every one has to get up early, eat fermented sticky and fruits. The worshipping is held at noon, hour of Ngo.
Celebrated on 3rd day of the third lunar month in llmost the regions of the Viet. In the festival duration, people offer glutinous rice flour cakes stuffed with plum of brown sugar (banh troi), glutinous rice flour cakes stuffed with green bean paste (banh chay) to worship ancestors, an occasion for people to visit and tidy the burial graves of relatives, having fun in spring.
The fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month festival - Great festival at pagodas include Vu Lan ceremony of Buddhism (also called forgive the loss souls) and fufill filial duty of Buddhist: ceremony of praying to clear the souls of false charges, open-door ceremony to forgive the loss souls, souls offering and food giving as alms ceremonies. It is the day that official in the hades forgive the loss souls arrive to living world to enjoy official involvement. Every family prepares a feast, offer votive paper to ancestors and wandering souls who are without incense-smoke.
Tet Trung Thu is formerly autumn festival, and then becomes tet trong trang (moon looking festival) of children. On this day, the moon is the brightest and roundest in the year, cool weather. The festival involves the custom of trong trang, procession of lights (parading with lanterns shaped as moon and stars), lion dance and eating pasties and fruits.
Tet is the biggest and the most sacred festival. It is the most attractive to a majority of the Vietnamese. Tet falls on a time when the old year is over and the New Year comes by lunar calendar. This is also the time when the cycle of the universe finishes: winter ends and spring, the season of birth of all living things, comes. Tet is an occasion for pilgrims and family reunions. It is a time when one pays respect to his/her ancestors and grandparents who have brought up him/her. It is an occasion when everyone sends each other best wishes for a new year, stops thinking about unhappy things and says good things about each other.
The Vietnamese people have a zest and reverence for life that is quite admirable and it no wonder that the Vietnamese calendar is actually one long procession of festivities and celebrations. In Vietnam, December is a busy month and the Tet Tao Quan, Vietnam is one of the most important of the Vietnamese festivals held during this time.
Khau Vai Love Market Festival is celebrated on 27th day of the third lunar month in Khau Vai Commune, Meo Vac District, Ha Giang Province. This is the place for couples in the region to make a date, and it is also the place for former lovers to meet each other, and look for boy or girls friend.
